Re: Jewish Tombstones of Shanghai - Saving
and Restoring
We write to you today on behalf of the Jewish community of
Shanghai to request funding for the “Saving and Restoring
the Lost Shanghai Jewish Tombstones and Headstones”
project.
It as been brought to our attention the degrading condition
of the recently found Jewish tombstones. Nearly all Shanghai’s
Jewish graves were lost during China’s cultural revolution.
Many of them were found during the last 10 month by Mr. Dvir
Bar-Gal our community member.
We seek an immediate solution and funding in order to solve
this situation. We strongly believe this project is essential
to preserve the history of the Jewish life in Shanghai and
China. It is a duty we feel for the descendants of those Shanghailanders
who lived and pass away here. Please see attached proposal.
